At Sarza we want you to know exactly how your products are made. Our of the joys of our Mungo linens is that they are created on antique looms. The Mungo mill has several different looms, each one lovingly restored and going strong. The different qualities of each loom create different finishes and products.

THE DORNIER MACHINES (c. 1970)

Dornier, the German aircraft manufacturers, changed to producing textile machinery after WWII. In 1963, they produced their prototype Rapier Loom which came to be considered by many as the ‘Rolls Royce’ of modern weaving machinery.

The Dornier looms create the beautiful Vrou Vrou blankets. This  bold and robust blanket features zig zag and geometric patterns. The classic waffle weave gives the Vrou Vrou a chunky body and texture. The pure cotton yarn ensures that it remains light and breathable, perfect for year round luxury.

THE RUTI LOOMS (c. 1960)

The Ruti loom is a direct replica of the well known Northrop, invented in 1896 in the USA. The advantage of Northrop was that it was semi-automatic; when a warp thread broke, the weaver was notified. When the shuttle ran out of thread, the machine stopped. This loom changed the industry, allowing a single a weaver to work over 30 looms.

The Ruti looms weave Mungo's Selvedge napkins. These generously sized, natural linen napkins are available in 12 different colors. Use either as a set in one color, or as originally intended as a mixed range - each family member can have their own color!

THE LANCASHIRE LOOMS (c. 1840 - 1890)

The Lancashire loom was invented during the 1840s and originally powered by either water or steam with a single steam engine driving up to 200 looms. It became the mainstay of England's Lancashire cotton industry.

The Lancashire looms create the gorgeous Summer Towel. A versatile bath, pool or beach towel that is half as bulky as a standard terry towel, yet equally absorbent. The flat weave soaks up little to no sand (not so many nooks and crannies for it to get stuck in!).

THE SAURER LOOM (c. 1960)

The Saurer is a rare find that fills the gap between the older looms and the modern Dornier machines. It links the progression of weaving through the ages – from hand weaving, to shuttle looms, and rapier-operated power machines.

Unlike Mungo's other single shuttle looms, the Saurer can accommodate four shuttles – allowing for multiple colors in the weft.

The Saurer loom creates the Caribbean Check range of napkins and tablecloths,  inspired by the vivid colors of the Caribbean. They are 100% cotton with an easy drape that’s soft and light.
